10:00 pm to midnight on Saturdays always finds LAMB Director, Hy McEnery, on the phone in his ministry of Evangelism. Last Saturday, one phone call was from Jose’. Jose’ sleeps every night in his car because of dangerous issues with his wife at home. He couldn’t sleep that Saturday night, so he turned on the car radio. He heard the New Orleans Mission Radio Broadcast, Desperate Reality with Johnny Lonardo, and for the first time, he realized that he was no longer alone anymore. He heard on the program that he could know God, that he could become a forever child of God, saved from his sins and Hell, and be sure of an eternal home in Heaven not by his works but only by the works of God, God’s Grace through faith in the Gospel! Jose’ wanted that free gift. He wanted to know how to get it. Hy is on the board of New Orleans Mission, an originator of the show, and the Chaplain Evangelism Counselor on call for Desperate Reality. That night, he received the call, Jose’s call of desperation.
Oh for the Precious Sweetness of Conversion! The Gospel is clear… Jesus Christ, God the Son, died on the cross to pay the penalty for all sin, for all people, for all time. He was buried. And, that He rose again on the third day. Repentance, believing that you could never in any way save yourself, and faith alone in Christ alone are the only things that God requires of each person to receive the free gift of eternal life, Heaven. “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved.” (Acts 16:31) Hy explained the clear Gospel to Jose’. Jose’ believed. He humbly and gratefully took God’s free gift of Heaven. He was born of God in that instant. He was born again, and he knew it. The joy and astonishment in his voice flew through the phone with Hy that night. Crying with relief and rejoicing in his Savior, Jose’ prayed out loud to his Forever Father. A new Child of the King!
