Evangelism and Discipleship… Lissy and Alonzo

Lissy was an answer to prayer. We asked the Lord to send new people to Wednesday Night Bible Study and Dinner.  Kels and Kara brought her.  They brought 11 teenagers!  Lissy is 16. Everyone was outside eating their jambalaya and sausage biscuits. Only Lissy sat at the table inside. Lissy and the Teacher… and, the Holy Spirit. “Do you know for sure, Lissy, that if you died tonight you would go to Heaven?” “No” Lissy answered. “I try to do my best. vI am very good and I have never sinned.” “That’s cool”, said the Teacher. “Have you ever lied?” “Of course I have. Everybody lies!” exclaimed the teenager.  But, there is a payment for sin that Lissy didn’t count on. “For the wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23).  There’s a sure way out of the deadly punishment for sin and Lissy gladly took it that night.  Lissy trusted that Jesus Christ, God the Son, paid the full price for all of her sin when He died on the cross.  And, she believed that he rose from the dead for her.  Jesus is the only key to open the door of Heaven, and Lissy grabbed that key by believing.  Lissy has God’s free gift of eternal life.

And then there was the angry 15 year old, Alonzo. “Will you believe on Jesus, Alonzo?” “I believed when I was young.”, he answered, “But, now I have another god.” “I remember, Alonzo. I was the one who led you to faith in Christ just two years ago. What happened?” the Teacher questioned. ”My School Teacher told me there are many gods and I can chose the one I want.” “Alonzo, did you mean it, when you told me you trusted Jesus only to go to Heaven?” I did, but my School Teacher is really smart.” “But, even your School Teacher can’t take you out of God’s hands, Alonzo.” He remembered his faith that night.  Relief and joy filled his grateful eyes and words.

Discipling new Believers is critical.  That’s why we continue as long as we can teaching the Bible after people trust Christ.  Sometimes worldly tribulation and deprivation cause people to give up on God.  I John 3:16,17 tells us to lay down our lives for the brethren.  We try to meet their desperate needs.  Also, we teach young people and adults the extreme importance of independence and hard work, so that they might always be able to support themselves and their families.  Sometimes we hire teens for small jobs, just to get them started in the joy of earning their own money.  LAMB Ministries seeks primarily to lead people to saving faith in Christ and secondly to strengthen them.

Thank you for your badly needed prayers and support for LAMB Ministries.  LAMB has been reaching New Orleans people for Christ for 22 years.  We thank God for the privilege of working for Him and for the many churches and individuals who have blessed and supported us so that together we can serve the Lord.

Shalom, and God bless,
